The STAATUS (“Social Tracking of Asian Americans Throughout the US”) Index

To understand and address the underlying causes of anti-Asian racism and discrimination better, we are launching a landmark study of American attitudes towards Asian Americans—The STAATUS Index. This multi-year project will be one of the largest and most comprehensive research efforts of its kind.

Working with leading Asian American scholars and experts, we are collecting data over the next two months from an estimated 2000+ Americans with varied racial, ethnic, political, educational, geographic and economic backgrounds to measure how they perceive Asian Americans. Our questions will cover the Model Minority, foreigner and other long-standing stereotypes of Asian Americans as well as more recent attitudes related to COVID-19. By measuring, tracking and publicizing these results over multiple years, LAAUNCH will publicize the status of Asian Americans in the broader US society and develop effective programs to reduce racism and increase appreciation and representation for our community.

To amplify our work and data from The STAATUS Index, we are collaborating with prominent Asian American influencers and PR experts in both traditional and social media. We are also partnering with other organizations, such as the Anti-Defamation League, to learn best practices and share our results.
